Study Abroad Loan

E.SUN is one of the main banks to undertake the study abroad loan of the Ministry of Education, which implements the government's policy of encouraging students to study abroad

Service description

Applicability

Citizens of the R.O.C., who go abroad to study for a master's or doctoral degree at a overseas university in accordance with the regulations adopted by the Ministry of Education and must meet the following conditions:

  • The student who graduate from a senior high school and colleges and universities in Taiwan
  • The student's household annual income is under NT$2,000,000 or the student and two or more of his/her siblings are studying abroad
  • Check the list of overseas universities recognized by the Ministry of Education

Master's loan

Loan amount: The total amount is NT$1,200,000

  • The loan amount limit for the first year is NT$600,000
  • The cumulative maximum loan amount for the second year is NT$1,200,000
  • The loan amount for students who are studying in a master's degree that will be complete within 15 months is NT$1,200,000 and disburse in a lump sum

 

Interest rate:

  • During the grace period: The current interest rate is 3.085%. (The interest rate calculated as the floating rate on one-year time savings deposit rate of Chunghwa Post Co. + 1.4% floating adjustment)
  • After the expiration of the grace period: The current interest rate is 2.835%. (The interest rate calculated as the floating rate on one-year time savings deposit rate of Chunghwa Post Co. + 1.15% floating adjustment)

 

Loan period: Up to 12 years (including 3 years grace period);After the expiration of the grace period, the principal and interest will be repaid by monthly installments in accordance with the Equal Total Payment

 

Fees: NT$2,000

 

※ No penalty for early payment

※ If the degree you pursuing is Juris Doctor (J.D.), it will be recognized as a master degree

※ Each person only apply for a loan to study in a master degree once

Doctoral Loan

Loan amount: The total amount is NT$2,400,000

  • The loan amount limit for the first year is NT$800,000
  • The cumulative maximum loan amount for the second year is NT$1,600,000
  • The cumulative maximum loan amount for the third year is NT$2,400,000
  • Loan period up to 16 years (including 5 years grace period);After the expiration of the grace period, the principal and interest will be repaid by monthly installments in accordance with the Equal Total Payment

 

Interest rate:

  • During the grace period: The current interest rate is 3.085%. (The interest rate calculated as the floating rate on one-year time savings deposit rate of Chunghwa Post Co. + 1.4% floating adjustment)

Annual percentage rate

    Annual percentage rate: 3%. Loan amount: NT$1,200,000. Loan period: 12 years. Interset rate: The current interest rate is a floating rate of 2.96%. The interest rate calculated as the floating rate on one-year time savings deposits of Chunghwa Post Co. - Variable Rate + 1.4% floating adjustment; After the expiration of the grace period, the borrower will bear an additional interest rate of 1.15% per annum, which will be adjusted by the Ministry of Education.

    • All annual rates disclosed herein have been calculated using standard calculation templates provided by the competent authority. The actual terms of loan may differ based on each product, and the annual fee rate may also differ among customers depending on the loan products and credit terms and conditions granted.
    • APR is not the same as interest rate.
    • The base date for calculating the annual percentage of this total cost is March 28, 2023.

Required documents

Students

  • Photocopy of graduation certificate from senior high school and colleges and universities or certificate for equivalent education level in Taiwan
  • Photocopy of the student's passport
  • Certificate of admission into a master's or doctoral degree program of an overseas university recognized by the Ministry of Education, or certificate of enrollment from the overseas university. If a certificate of admission cannot be obtained due to lack of a financial certificate, a certificate of enrollment may be used instead (If the document is in a language other than English, it must be translated into Chinese by a translation agency registered with the government)
  • ID card, personal seal, and household certificate or household registration transcript in last 3 months (including detailed notes)
  • If the student has already left the country to study and is unable to apply for the loan in person, he/she should present a letter of authorization certified by a notary public or embassies and consulates abroad, representative office, overseas missions or other authorized organization of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, R.O.C. (Taiwan) and relevant documents such as the certificate of the student's entry and exit dates issued by the Ministry of the Interior National Immigration Agency, R.O.C. (Taiwan) and appoint a person in the country to apply for the loan on his/her behalf
  • The latest annual income of the student and entire household issued by the National Taxation Bureau
  • If the student and two or more of his/her siblings are studying abroad, he/she should attach the certificate of enrollment or the admission permit for the other siblings
  • After the period of receiving public funds has ended, and the student who approved by the original authorizing agency that self-financed study abroad should attach the certified doucment approved by the original authorizing agency

Guarantor

  • ID card, personal seal, and household certificate or household registration transcript in last 3 months (including detailed notes)
  • Income certificate (payroll account, annual withholding tax statement or income tax list for the latest year)

Note:The guarantor must be a person other than an applicant's spouse, and not only must be a citizen of R.O.C but also should be a person with full capacity and no bad credit history
