On 1 July 2014 the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act, commonly known as FATCA, has come into effect. In accordance with current guidance, Taiwan has reached Model 2 Intergovernmental Agreements (IGAs) with the U.S. on 23 June 2014, allowing foreign financial institutions (FFIs) in Taiwan to comply with FATCA obligations without breaching national data protection laws.
